Short answer: It is my blog for me to put my critical musings about whatever interests me in the moment.
In the post 2020 era, I find myself wanting to write more about my musings about whatever television I am watching. I tend to binge things no one in my life is interested in. I want to talk about these shows but have no where to do so. Except I do. Here.
Sometimes I might give into my science self as this blog was originally intended.
My goal with CritiKate is to help people of all education levels access science through writing summaries of journal papers. The articles I decide to cover are motivated by the unenthusiastic, over stated, and sometimes misleading articles posted by main stream news outlets.
Personally, I find that the nature of science and what is exciting about someone’s work is generally lost by the time it gets regurgitated by someone who may not have the ability, time, or desire to read the source material. This sometimes makes these articles feel watered down, or the meaning is lost in a way similar to how a statement can change during a game of telephone.
I will not claim to be an expert in any of the fields I am reading these papers from, but I will do my best to do appropriate background research and accurately portray the tone of the original authors.
If you ever come across an article that you would like an in depth view of, please drop me a line.
