SVU: S13E11

Military contract guy getting talked at by protesters.

He gets drugged in his limo, and then of course a school group finds him gagged and in a state of undress in a park somewhere.

I’ve been dealing with what I assume is plantar fasciitis is making shit annoying.

He’s doing his interview about the incident.

So this episode was during occupy wall street. Interesting.

They are the first thought suspects. But we redirect to someone more likely to be personally related to the victim.

Oh shit now we have some guys on the docks with a bunch of scary guns.

Guy comes forward and says he did it and it’s because something that happened to new bad guys daughter.

In a line up the victim looks at the bad guy, and then realized what’s up and kills the ID line up and runs out.

Here we go. They talk to daughter while she’s working at some place that seems unfun interestingly she’s not wearing a hairnet but the people in the background are.

Okay so this is about women being raped in the military on deployment and contractors

This focuses on contractors and how the military arm isn’t helping but specifically the writers are doing a slight deflect so they can talk about both of them but not potentially be seen as anti US military. Smart, and noticeable by a portion of the audience.

A corporate man says corporate things.

This is highly sus and everyone knows. Now it’s what are the excuses these people give in legalese to distract from the real problem.

Detective aramaro and his wife talk shop and then we get a brief show of him showing his wife love. (Despite the tension implied a few episodes ago).

Now they talk to the doctor about the rape kit the disappeared.

Corporate man says corporate things again but is leaning towards being reasonable. Now him and Liv are out having a drink.

Liv sets a boundary and he listens! Holy fucking hell?!!?! Anyway.

Grand jury time. The previously on their side doctor is changing her story on the stand, obviously reluctantly in her change of story so we clearly know as the audience she is being forced to.

So this is good. Very good acting and sets up the potential for someone coming in after this scene and potentially believing her testament in the opposite direction so that when the conclusion comes they will be forced to confront the difference in their perception and what’s happening.

Love the bit about the victims gang rape causing the victim to be infertile. I get it, appeal to those people who love children for childrens sake. This is what moves the super catholic aramaro.

Now we move to Amanda confronting the big man in charge of this bullshit. In this instance I feel like she’s channelling the ” I’m a bad ass lady and I’m holding this powerful man accountable.”

This sets her up as a hero character in this episode. She’s from the south, makes a point of her in with Florida cops.

Appealing to struggles of returned vets with alcoholism. A serious problem the writers are bringing to the front.

He’s painted as good man struggling with the same system oppressing the women’s claims of rape. He’s one of the good guys caught in a bad web. Another great connection for people in the audience to attach to.

Cops and corporate guy TM get intimidated by big man in the business for showing that it’s likely he’s squashed the bullshit.

The seriousness of the grand jury coming due happens.

Everyone important to the states case against the military contractor is fucked up somehow and. At least 1 is murdered.

I think the writers are trying to show that black ops are scary and should be a thing to worry about.

So the writers are pointing out: don’t trust the military guys because they are military. There is an ugly side to see.

Now we see how deep the conspiracy goes. I need to go back to the episode about the FoxHost bad power episode.

Arresting the bad guy captain for hiding the rape and stuff

So now captain bad black ops guy (whom is black- which makes me wonder if this was sort of a concession to blunt the message or make it more acceptable by the perceived audience in the message).

Now amaro is saying bye to his wife for her next deployment from his cell phone in the station. Clearly we are setting that up as a conflict going forward.

Liv is out on a date with corporate guy and it’s going okay. She says a dope witty comment to him and it’s nice as he puts her in a text home. We get to see her face being like, “humm that guy is okay, maybe I like him? 😉 .

And roll credits. Time for a tasty microwave corn dog lol.
